Guest registration in the Canary Islands: the report goes to SES Hospedajes

The Canary Islands have no police registry of their own: your holiday home’s traveller report is filed with SES Hospedajes, and BookCheckin files it automatically. Plus what changes under Law 6/2025, the municipal authorisation, the deadlines and the penalties.

In the Canary Islands the traveller report goes to SES Hospedajes

Unlike Catalonia or the Basque Country, the Canary Islands have no guest-registration police registry of their own. Each guest’s report is filed with SES Hospedajes, the Spanish state platform run by the Ministry of the Interior, under Royal Decree 933/2021. It is the channel for any accommodation in the archipelago, from a hotel in southern Tenerife to a single-storey holiday home in Lanzarote.

Who must report in the Canary Islands

The duty to report guests covers every accommodation activity in the archipelago, whatever its size:

  • Hotels, aparthotels and non-hotel establishments.
  • Holiday homes and their managers.
  • Tourist apartments.
  • Rural houses and rural tourism establishments.
  • Campsites and camping areas.
  • Managers and platforms intermediating the rental of these accommodations.

24-hour deadline and three-year retention

The timing is the state rule: each traveller’s data must be reported to SES Hospedajes within 24 hours of arrival, and the establishment must keep its guest register for three years, available for inspection.

The fields are those of the traveller report: guest identification, document type and number, date of birth, nationality and the stay and payment details. In high-turnover destinations like the Canaries, doing this by hand in season eats up hours every week.

The Canary holiday home: from Decree 113/2015 to Law 6/2025

The traveller report does not replace the tourism authorisation. Holiday homes in the Canaries were governed for years by Decree 113/2015; since December 2025 the framework is Law 6/2025 on the Sustainable Regulation of Tourist Use of Homes, which gives the leading role to the council: the activity is only allowed where municipal planning expressly permits tourist use, with a ceiling of 10% of residential buildability (up to 20% on El Hierro, La Gomera and La Palma) and licences that are no longer transferable.

The state Single Registry (NRUA), annulled by the Supreme Court

Do not confuse the Canary authorisation with the Single Rental Registry (NRUA) that Royal Decree 1312/2024 created alongside its Digital Single Window. The Supreme Court annulled it in several 2026 rulings, so you no longer need to obtain the NRUA number to advertise a short-term rental or file its annual report.

That annulment touches neither the municipal authorisation under Law 6/2025 nor the traveller report: the SES Hospedajes filing under RD 933/2021 remains fully in force and independent. What fell is the duplicated state layer, not the regional one or the security one.

Penalties: what is at stake

Guest reporting is governed by Organic Law 4/2015 on the protection of public safety: irregularities in completing the registers are a minor infringement, fined €100 to €600, and failing to meet the documentary-registration obligations can be a serious infringement, fined €601 to €30,000.

On top of that, through a separate track, the Canary tourism sanctioning regime applies to operating without the required authorisation. They are different proceedings: one looks at the guest register; the other at your authorisation to host. The holiday-home guide covers the second.
